Responsibilities include performing chemical analysis and identification of trace samples; differentiating trace signatures from contamination and background; developing expeditionary forensic protocols related to sample preparation and analysis; preparing extractions; performing drug analysis using ion analysis or GC/MS, FTIR spectrometry; interpreting mass spectra; utilizing problem solving skills to deal with issues associated with technical and associated environmental issues; conducting research involving new methods of analysis, as applicable; incorporating the principles of quality assurance; compiling statistical data on laboratory tests and activities; maintaining laboratory equipment via daily maintenance and troubleshooting, as required; and, responding orally and in writing to inquiries, preparing forensic reports, providing instruction and tours' and other duties as required.

Evidence Custodians/Case File Managers
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: receiving and documenting evidence using appropriate Army evidence vouchers; properly marking and tagging evidence in accordance with Army Law Enforcement guidance (ARs and FMs) and maintaining associated Evidence room documentation; assisting in the preparation of Laboratory Examination Requests and with limited processing and stabilization of forensic evidence, e.g., superglue fuming of nonporous surfaces before shipment; receiving and assisting with triage of personally delivered evidence packages; preparing shipping invoices and appropriate mailing labels for transmitting evidence to other laboratories; continually coordinating with supporting forensic laboratory entities regarding evidence preservation, stabilization and transmittal procedures for best success; coordinating with local Army Law Enforcement and Physical Security offices for timely completion of required Evidence Room inspections; and, performing related duties benefiting the evidence collection and preservation for the mission. This position involves contract support to US military activities inside of the bases.

Biometric examiners may also be offered an opportunity to undergo an extensive two year training program to become Latent Print Examiners (LPEs) and obtain certification as an LPE through the International Association for Identification.

Forensics Subject Matter Expert IV
Supports the BIMA in Arlington, Virginia in its role as the Department of Defenses' Executive Manager of Biometrics by providing subject matter expertise and decision support for Department of Defense coordination of DoD forensic initiatives, with respect to biometrics across DoD Components.
